Bite of the Gadfly: A #feldgang poem for #clmooc

1 min read

Earlier this month I declared the horsefly the antagonist of my .

Naturally I had to do some poetry...so I tried to describe the most annoying thing in my physical world with the most annoying thing in the digital world...horseflies link to recording in case  iframe is getting stripped out.

The vanity of tabanidae

Dive bombing Dipterous

Of data

Flying into your phone

Never leaving you alone

On two wings,

making your phone sing

A lonely sound

Drowned out by all those

around

Heads down, thumb scroll

The gadfly takes a constant

Toll

Hunting for attention

A technological convention

Promising ascencsion

Instead

Colossus Proboscis

Hold us in suspension

As the mouthparts

Suck our attention

The blood of thought

All for not

Under the onslaught

Heads down, thumb scroll

The gadfly takes a constant

Toll

Notifications take flight

Looking for a fight

Endless durartion

The stabbing ping

A constant ring

An ablation of presence

Stolen by the essence

Blood letting at our

Expense

Want freedom from the Gadflys?

Turn off notifications.

As I work on my feldgang posts I keep thinking we do a lot in the "woods" or romanticized nature. The National Parks. . You know who lives near woods or travel to national parks? White people. Bias can creep into our teaching anywhere.

Writing Prompt Day Four #EDU407Sum19

1 min read

Writers thrive on the power of observation.

Look up. The sky is its own canvas of wonder.  Imagine this: we all share the same sky, just different parts of it at different times of day. Your sky is part of my sky, and mine, is part of yours.

For today’s prompt, gaze up at the sky, day or night or somewhere in-between, and take notice. We suggest you find a nice plot of ground to lay back on and then just become quiet. Looking, wondering, wandering at the expanse above you. How does the sky inform your world?

Hey #clmooc help me on my learning journey by documenting your own #feldgang by building a website

As part of this summer I am trying to create a tutorial that students of all ages can use to document their learning journey.

I am writing a tutorial for launching a website with some basic blogging functionalities using the Glitch platform.

Wondering if anyone would be willing to give the tutorials a try. Interested in feedback in general observations, like time it takes, the instructional design, word choice.

You know general teacher feedback on lesson plans.

If you stick with me this summer as I complete the lessons you will leave with a website dedicated to your . I know we all have blogs and keep living there. I just want to drop a few seeds along the way as we journey together this summer.

Here is the tutorial

Here is the starter project.

If you want any help ping me anytime and if anyone else wants a unit or lesson plans reviewed just ask.
