Hey some important writing from @crazyquilts https://www.slj.com/?detailStory=The-problem-with-picture-book-monkeys-racist-imagery-libraries and a follow up https://crazyquiltedi.blog/2019/12/05/simianizations/ choose your book reviews wisely, think about all the narratives

Quick tip 4 writing objectives: SWBAT understand X...usually not needed especially if you also say students will write X, can measure their writing to gauge understanding but measuring understanding hard

β€œ I have discovered over my career that every child who comes through the classroom door becomes a teacher” (pg 286) Great Line from a piece Entitled A Thrice-Learned Lesson from the Literate Life of a Five-Year-Old"

@CarolineLehman Sorry broke thread. Tried to do 3-12th . read back on blog. Love teaching nuance of structure but want to show sometimes scope & sequence of makes little sense always shows bias

Greg McVerry

Congrats college & career ready to read literature from four corners of page..yes we had to compare texts in 4th & 8th grade but hope you didn't venture far from corners Atleast we know you read the "Bard"

Greg McVerry

11/12 text structure to find how author plays on tragedy. Code for "Shakespeare"...remember snuck in 7th (sonnet) becuase "shared culture" and all; in fact Shakspeare and founding docs only required texts

Greg McVerry

Then 9/10th analyssis of text structure only revolves around author's manipulation of time to study mystery and suspense..cuz you know 3rd graders can't understand flashback CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.5

Greg McVerry

You have now hit 8th grade and in the first time in four years you should again compare pieces of writing rather than just one: "Compare and contrast the structure of two or more texts" CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.8.5

Greg McVerry

7th grade must be a poem or drama: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.5
Analyze how a drama's or poem's form or structure I say add images, or video games...notice h/t to Shakespeare...meh.CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.7.5
